Saint Peter was an Aleut native of Kodiak Island, Alaska. He was baptized by the monks of Saint Herman's mission. In 1815, while hunting seals, he and several other Aleuts were kidnapped by Spanish sailors and taken to San Gabriel Mission in California. There they were interrogated and threatened by Spanish priests who attempted to convert them to the Latin church. They refused, and Peter was the first to receive torture. His fingers and hands were cut off, and he was finally disemboweled, gaining the martyr's crown.

The other Aleuts were freed soon afterwards and were returned to Alaska. Upon learning of Peter's martyrdom, Saint Herman said, "Holy new-martyr Peter, pray to God for us!" He is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on September 24 and December 12.
